Premier's Council on Suicide Prevention sign National Communications Charter

The Premier’s Council on Suicide Prevention is moving forward in its efforts to tackle South Australia’s suicide rate by signing and implementing the National Communications Charter. The decision was made at the recent third meeting of the Council, which is led by the Hon John Dawkins MLC, Premier’s Advocate for Suicide Prevention, and made up of members from a variety of backgrounds with extensive experience in the fields of mental health and suicide prevention.

ABORIGINAL LANDS PARLIAMENTARY STANDING COMMITTEE: REPORT 2017-18

The Hon. J.S.L. DAWKINS (16:10): I move:

That the 2017-18 annual report of the committee be noted.

This is the first report of the Aboriginal Lands Parliamentary Standing Committee that I have had the privilege to move as presiding member, and it is a great privilege to serve in that role. There has been significant change in the last year for this committee, as with most committees, due to the election and the nomination of new members to that committee.

NORTHERN SUBURBS MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES

The Hon. J.S.L. DAWKINS (14:57): Members of the council will know of my long support for people living with mental illness, my work as the Premier's Advocate for Suicide Prevention and also my involvement with the Playford and Salisbury suicide prevention networks, among many others. Will the minister update the council on the government's action with regard to mental health services in the northern suburbs?

MODBURY HOSPITAL

The Hon. J.S.L. DAWKINS: Having worked across the north-eastern suburbs throughout my time in this place, and before that, I am well aware of the deep connection that community has to the Modbury Hospital. I also acknowledge the strong affinity that residents of the northern Adelaide Hills and parts of the Murraylands region also have with the hospital. Will the minister update the council on the government's plans for the Modbury Hospital?

GAWLER EVENTS

The Hon. J.S.L. DAWKINS (15:29): I rise today to speak about three significant events that were held in Gawler over the last weekend. First, I was delighted to attend the Rotary Club of Gawler's annual village fair at Pioneer Park on Saturday 3 November, which was opened by Mayor Karen Redman. This event has been running for more than four decades. It is run by the Rotary Club of Gawler, free of charge to community groups, to allow them to raise funds and awareness of their activities in the community.
